WEI FUN in East Hampton opened just before Labor Day in 2006. Owner Ben Krupinski (also owner of East Hampton Point, The 1770 House and cittanuova) and partners, have collaborated with executive chef Kevin Penner to create an authentic dining alternative on the East End. The new restaurant offers a new journey in Chinese cuisine that combines a trendy and elegant fine dining atmosphere. "A lively Chinese restaurant with striking decor and exceptionally good food," raves Joanne Starkey of The New York Times. Diners will be immediately impressed upon entering this chic, upscale yet comfortable establishment designed by local architect James D’Auria. After spending six years studying the cuisine and "anthropology" of southern China, executive chef Kevin Penner decided to take what he learned and bring it to East Hampton. WEI FUN offers soup, salad and small bites ranging in price from $5 to $11 each and appetizers varying from $10 to $14. Noodles and rice range from $12 to $16; stir-fry entrées from $15 to $19 and main courses from $18 to $30. Sample menu items include: Crispy Turnip Cake with dried shrimp, cilantro and garlic; Hot and Sour Chicken Soup with water chestnuts and cilantro; Lemon Chicken with asparagus and water chestnuts; and Five Spice Duck with eggplant, mushrooms and chilies. For dessert, WEI FUN serves Almond Cake with red bean paste and bananas and Caramel and Coconut Custard with litchis. An ideal destination to wine and dine, WEI FUN also offers an extensive wine list which includes wines by the glass and specialty cocktails. Keeping with Chinese tradition, WEI FUN offers take out, as well as a happy hour Monday through Friday. Special promotions such as two for one entrées and wine dinners are featured in the off season. The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 – 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday open until 11 p.m., with the bar opening daily at 4:30 p.m. |
