The Laundry Restaurant, one of East Hampton’s most successful and longest running restaurant operations, "was the pioneer of upscale restaurants on the East End" according to Joanne Starkey of the New York Times. Owned by original owners, The Bonbrest family along with Stuart Kreisler and Tracey Bonbrest, the Laundry recently moved their veteran restaurant to a new location now housed in a historic farmhouse. James Spodnik, who is Jamie Drake’s creative director at Drake Design Associates, has executed the design elements of the space. Spodnik states the theme of the space is "channeling Norman Jaffe" – the architect who created the original space over twenty-five years ago. Executive Chef and partner Andrew Engle has created a unique American regional menu with specialty items from the wood-burning oven. Engle has a commitment to local produce and seafood, which is portrayed on his menu. Sample appetizers include: the "showstopping" jumbo lump crab cakes with avocado salsa, chipotle vinaigrette, says Starkey; BBQ baby back ribs with Laundry coleslaw and P.E.I. mussels with garlic, white wine and parsley. Entrees on the menu include: roasted Iacono farm chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and spring vegetables; sautéed calf’s liver with caramelized onions, bacon and garlic mashed potatoes and the infamous Laundry burger and fries, “reliably flavorful” according to Peter Gianotti of Newsday. Wood burning oven specialties include whole fish and organic Scottish salmon served with artichokes, cherry tomatoes, purple potato hash, and red wine reduction. All desserts are homemade such as sticky toffee date cake, profiteroles, rhubarb crisp and homemade ice cream with flavors like mint chip and toasted almond. The restaurant serves dinner seven nights a week from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Laundry location offers special events on premises with seating for 215 plus added opportunity for outdoor events on the 4-acre property. The restaurant can remain open to the public while catering a tented event on the premises for a wedding, bar mitzvah or other special event. |
