TAKING CARE. Southampton is such a desirable locale that a former
caretaker's cottage is now on the market for $18.45 million. Granted, the
property is much more lavish today than it was as part of the Linden estate,
home to Texas oilman and National Review founder, the late Lloyd Hilton
Smith, for nearly half a century. The diminutive cottage, which sits on 2.75
acres of the original estate's 16 on Ox Pasture Road, is "historically
significant" and can't be demolished, says listing agent Gary DePersia of
the Corcoran Group.
