Matto (“crazy” in Italian) is an authentic Trattoria offering inventive Italian cuisine in a casual yet lively atmosphere. From the market style umbrellas on the patio to the rustic architectural elements inside, Matto is understated but elegant. Designed by kimberlyhallCREATIVE, woven leather chairs mix with Douglas fir flooring and millwork to create a vibe that is both inviting yet appropriate to a beachside community. The zinc-topped bar is positioned at the front of the space offering a view point for watching the chefs craft tasty pizzas heading into the large pizza ovens. Adjacent to the bar is a convenient take-out area offering a full menu with emphasis on pizzas. Upon approaching the dining room, one is be met by an airy cathedral ceiling draped in flowing white fabric, lending a soft and romantic quality day or night. Executive Chef Franco Russo’s authentic Italian menu offers appetizers in the $7 - $12 price range and entrees $17 - $25. Sample appetizers include: Insalata Giulio Cesare, Caesar salad, eggless and anchovie-less, served with herb focaccia croutons and Crostini di Mozzarella, battered layer of mozzarella with special white sauce, butter and lemon. A variety of pasta dishes grace the menu such as: Bucatini Amatriciana, thick spaghetti with caramelized onions and pancetta and Pappardelle con Porcini e Crema, ribbon style pasta in a cream sauce with porcini mushrooms. The entrée portion of the menu includes: Bistecca al Pepe Verde, steak crusted with green peppercorns and brandy sauce; Salmone Crostato, mustard and walnut crusted salmon; and Bistecca al pepe Verde, New York strip steak with crusted green peppercorns and brandy sauce. All desserts are homemade featuring traditional Italian sweets such as tiramisu, cheesecake and apple tart. Matto offers a selection of wine and beer, both international and local. Matto is now open for Lunch on Saturdays from 12 – 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 – 5 p.m. and will be open for dinner Monday – Sunday starting at 5 p.m. A family friendly atmosphere is offered early evening while later at night Matto evolves into a casual meeting place for friends to enjoy drinks and dinner. |
