In the splendor of an 18th century mansion, the 1789 Restaurant at The Maine Maid is a throwback to a kinder and gentler era, when fireplaces and flowers spelled romance. Originally the homestead of a prominent Long Island family, the landmark building, located on a 22-acre Quaker preserve, dates back from 1789. A dining destination since 1850, the eatery is also a popular spot for rehearsal dinners, business meetings and holiday parties.

Since taking ownership in March 2007, Rajiv and Payal Sharma, also owners of the popular Sitar restaurant in Huntington, NY, are concluding a top-to-bottom refurbishment of the property, shepherding its transformation into an elegant, yet relaxed culinary retreat.
