Some of the finest cuisine on the East Coast is available on Long Island, less than an hour from New York City. And for one week, at the tail end of harvest season, Long Island dining will be available for bargain prices. The Third Annual Long Island Restaurant Week is scheduled to launch Sunday, November 2nd through Sunday, November 9th, 2008. The week-long promotion features a special prix fixe dinner offered by all restaurant participants. The idea is simple: for one week, Sunday to Sunday, all participating restaurants offer a three-course prix fixe for $24.95 all night, except Saturday when it will be offered only until 7 p.m. Each restaurant offers their own unique menu.

Designed to garner positive publicity and additional business for Long Island restaurants, Long Island Restaurant Week attained impressive numbers for its first year. Total restaurant revenue was estimated to be $2,848,200 with New York State taking in an estimated $150,753 in tax dollars. Many restaurants reported midweek numbers to be up over 40-100% as well as an increase in sales and reservations due to the promotion, some by up to 200%. Some restaurants also decided to extend the $24.95 promotion for another week. Last year’s campaign was recognized for its superior achievement in branding and reputation by the leading public relations industry analyst, The Holmes Group, with a SABRE Gold Award Certificate of Excellence.
