Hill Street Café, a breakfast and lunch spot, debuted May 2007 at Southampton Inn. Owned by Dede Gotthelf, the kitchen is headed up by one of Long Island’s foremost chefs – Peter Dunlop. Chef Dunlop has earned an outstanding reputation for his culinary manifestations. Joanne Starkey from The New York Times awarded an "excellent" in 2005 and wrote, "The American Hotel is scaling the heights again. The present chef, Peter Dunlop, has been on the scene for five years. We found his creations nearly flawless." Robert Blake from Food and Wine penned "the food is excellent" in describing a Thanksgiving dinner the chef orchestrated. The interior of Hill Street Café features original art from prominent and "up and coming" North and South Fork artists. Sophisticated floral designs and recessed lighting fixtures contribute to the dining room’s cosmopolitan look. While wicker café chairs and Provence print table linen lend seaside flair. During the warmer months, patrons may opt for al fresco dining on the patio. Prices for breakfast range from $6 to $14. The menu features classics like waffles, pancakes, and a variety of omelets. Chef’s specials include: New Orleans Style Lost Bread (sour dough French toast stuffed with wild berry jam); Iron Skillet Frittata (three eggs with peppers, mushrooms, onion & Montrachet), and a selection of healthy choices like: Fresh Seasonal Berries with granola and low fat yogurt; Fresh Grapefruit with caramelized sugar; Fresh Fruit Cup. For lunch, entrees (including sandwiches and salads) are priced between $11 to $18, and include such choices as: Grilled sirloin steak sandwich; Platter of Irish oak smoked salmon with capers, egg and toast points; Hill Street Café Cobb salad; Local fillet of flounder sautéed with capers and lemon; and Hill Street Café Flounder B.L.T. |
