Rebecca Cooper made an indelible mark in the art world, when she opened the country’s first psychedelic art gallery in Washington DC. Since then, she has been a fixture on the art scene, and most recently turned her attention to Sag Harbor on Eastern Long Island in New York. Ms. Cooper opened the doors of The Gallery Sag Harbor in December 2004. With the idea to complement the burgeoning art community there, she has imbued the space with old-fashioned charm and funkiness that is more in keeping with a “salon” than a high-tech studio.

Art exhibits at The Gallery Sag Harbor have titillated audiences, garnered international media attention, and appealed to collectors. Shows of note include "The Model Project," a live nude art show, where featured artists sketched models, and “Alan Greenspan as Art” and later “Goodbye Greenspan.” In the latter case, Ms. Cooper launched the career of painter Erin Crowe and her Pop Art portraits of former Fed Chair Alan Greenspan, which have become collector’s items. One of the Greenspan oils raised over $150,000 in an auction on eBay to benefit autistic children.
