Noted Long Island restaurateur John Durkin of Trattoria Diane and Diane’s Bakery in Roslyn and Café Diane in Woodbury opened The DayBoat Café in August 2008. The New England-style fish shack serves simple and fresh seafood with Durkin at the helm in the kitchen. The restaurant is an ideal destination for families and beachcombers in the mood for a nautical-themed atmosphere. Designed by Beth Donner of Beth Donner Design in Huntington, the funky and comfortable dining room features bright hues and whitewashed walls. Prices range from $7 to $12 for appetizers, $14 to $27 for entrées and $7 for desserts. Appetizers (“small plates”) include: Mixed greens with local tomatoes and bleu cheese; shrimp cocktail; crab cake with celery remoulade; Prince Edward Island mussels with tomatoes, white wine, minced anchovies and parsley. Entrées or (“big plates”) include: Lobster roll with shoestring fries; Long Island Bouillabaisse with mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops and lobster; and Farfalle with shrimp, zucchini and marinara sauce. Desserts are prepared by acclaimed pastry chef and Durkin’s wife, Diane Margaritas, of Diane’s Bakery in Roslyn. Sample desserts include: Peach pie; chocolate mousse; banana cream pie; Key lime pie; ice cream sandwich; and three berry pie. In keeping with the laid-back setting, The DayBoat Café only serves wine and beer. |
