"Long Island’s Premier Mexican Restaurant," Besito, "leaves the competition in the dust" says Joanne Starkey of The New York Times. The authentic Mexican restaurant, translated little kiss in Spanish, is owned by veteran restaurateur John Tunney III, David Tunney & John Rieger who also own Blue Honu the award-winning Hawaiian inspired restaurant in Huntington and J. Tunney also owns American Burger Company, good food served fast. Besito Mexican Kitchen and Agave Lounge opened its first location in 2006 in Huntington followed by the second location in 2007 in Roslyn, both which garnered "excellent" ratings from The New York Times. John Tunney spent months journeying to Mexico to research all aspects of Mexican dining - from the cuisine and cocktails to the design and décor - all with the goal of creating the most culturally authentic Mexican restaurant Northeast has seen. Besito’s menu embraces all of the flavors, passions and festivity of the Mexican experience. A glimpse into the menu reveals tasty entradas (appetizers) such as: guacamole en molcajete, signature guacamole prepared tableside served with fresh tortillas and chips; sopa de tortilla, traditional tortilla soup with avocado, white onion, queso Chihuahua, chopped cilantro and toasted pasilla chile, and ceviche del dia, ceviche made daily with plantain chips and tortilla chips. Platos Principales, or entrees, found on the menu include: enchiladas de mole pobalano, soft corn tortillas filled with shredded chicken, baked in mole, topped with queso fresco and sliced onion and filet de res, seared beef tenderloin with a tortilla & queso fresco crust with chipotle pipian, wild mushrooms & fingerling potatoes. Desserts are not to be missed as well; all diners are treated to a homemade churro, a long spiral of fried dough rolled in cinnamon and sugar. Other standout desserts include the citrus infused tres leches cake garnished with fresh berries, crema de mango with seasonal berries. Aside from the delectable menu, at Besito you will also find an extensive list of tequilas on the Agave Lounge. From shooters to sippers to savours, the bar houses over 40 different tequilas all straight from – you guessed it – Mexico. Margaritas are the house favorite here especially the Besito Patron Margarita with pomegranate-tangerine juice infused into the classic cocktail. There is an impressive selection of wines and a savory concoction of house sangria. Besito serves dinner nightly with Brunch specials also offered on weekends. Besito has become such an overnight success, that the Tunney brothers and Reiger have planned to take the concept national with plans to develop 50 Besito units over the next 5 years. |
