On a quiet block behind an ordinary front in residential Astoria, lies Cávo, a sophisticated restaurant, urban lounge and outdoor space with a breathtaking garden. Cávo’s restaurant boasts a resort feel with 30 foot ceilings, Mexican ceramic floors, a long bar in “Jerusalem Artichoke” limestone imported from Israel, and tropical-inspired furniture. The restaurant is housed on two floors, with the upstairs dining room doubling as a semi private space overlooking the lounge and garden. The garden is about 4,000 square feet of space and has a 20-foot perimeter golden colored limestone wall with beautiful flowers and greens planted by a neighborhood landscaper from Sicily. “This is a perfect summer spot,” says Time Out New York. The menu at Cávo, developed by Chef Eric Miller, includes traditional Greek mezedes as well as contemporary appetizers and main courses that are American in presentation and spirit, but decidedly inspired by Greek and Mediterranean ingredients and seasonings. The menu offers appetizers in the $9 - $16 price range, and entrees $18 - $38. Sample appetizers include: Keftedakia Me Kefalograviera, pan fried meatballs stuffed with cheese, herbs and ladolemono and Htapodi Sta Karvouna, charcoal grilled Mediterranean octopus with chick peas, kalamata olives, golden potatoes, roasted tomatoes, fresh parsley and red wine vinaigrette. The entrée portion of the menu includes: Arnaki me Revithia, olive crusted Colorado rack of lamb and braised lamb rib osso bucco with braised carrots and chick peas; and Psari Psito, whole caught market fish stuffed with lemon, fresh oregano served with traditional lemon potatoes and market vegetables. Desserts include: Warm Chocolate Cake, Cávo’s melting chocolate cakes served with Tahitian vanilla gelato and Homemade Crepes, Cávo’s homemade warm crepes filled with your choice of nutella, fresh bananas, or ripe strawberries. Cávo is open seven days a week for dinner from 5 p.m. – 2 a.m. The bar and lounge are open until 4 a.m. and brunch is served on Sunday from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Cávo also hosts special events and weddings. |
